The skincare brand Momiji Beauty entrusted the studio with designing their new space in the heart of Colonia Juárez, Mexico City. Here, they combine their wide range of Asian beauty products with an innovative café and food menu inspired by Showa-era cafés.
The chosen site is a beautiful Art Deco house from the 1920s-1930s. Over the years, the house had undergone several renovations that gradually undermined its original beauty and essence.
The intervention for Momiji Cafe involved a thorough investigation to identify the house’s original elements, followed by a complete restoration of the woodwork to restore its original beauty and ensure its preservation. Drawing inspiration from both the house's history and Japan’s Showa era, the café and retail design integrates iconic elements of the Art Deco movement with references to “secondary” materials commonly used in that era, such as tiles and steel, which were traditionally found in service areas.
Each room in the house has been thoughtfully designed to offer visitors moments of awe and enjoyment, providing a unique coffee experience throughout their visit.
